Join our team at Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard!
A career at Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard means your office could be anywhere – from onboard a ship to inside a laboratory or outside in nature. DFO is one of the few departments working at the crossroads of hard science, policy, economics and enforcement. That unique positioning is the reason why DFO was recognized as one of Canada’s top employers for young people four years in a row.
We have a broad but important mission. Our employees range from policy analysts and communication advisors to marine mammal scientists and oceanographers to fishery officers and engineers. In fact, many of our employees are more likely to be on the water than in an office building.
At DFO, decision-makers work alongside scientists, fish harvesters and Indigenous partners to craft policy and management plans that reflect the latest scientific research, Indigenous knowledge, and economic and environmental factors. The Department maintains harbours, implements policies to protect whales, oversees aquaculture projects, sets fish harvesting quotas, manages and protects fish stocks and habitats, and enforces the law.
In our workplace, we:
take workplace well-being seriously and encourages a respectful workplace. We have many networks to support employees and facilitate an inclusive workplace culture
encourage leadership and innovation at all levels of the department
take our commitment to the health of our oceans seriously by co-leading the Ocean Plastics Charter
take a comprehensive approach to onboarding that provides support to a new employee prior to their arrival and throughout their first year of employment
